Hi, I'm Christopher
I'm a Christian with a PhD in Philosophy from the University of California, Santa Barbara. I founded The Protestant Academy to equip Protestants to engage the hardest objections to their faith with confidence, clarity, and charity.
ABOUT ME
From Academic Probation to Getting My PhD
It was my junior year of college when everything seemed to be falling apart. A letter from the university arrived. I was on academic probation, teetering on the edge of failure.
Then I discovered philosophy. Big ideas. Complex arguments. A way of thinking that transformed how I approached everything. Something clicked. What was once an academic struggle became a passionate pursuit of knowledge. My grades turned around. I completed a master's degree and went on to earn my PhD, specializing in epistemology, ethics, and the philosophy of religion.
The Gap I Couldn't Ignore
After graduate school I kept running into the same problem. Sharp Catholic and Orthodox apologists were pressing objections against Protestant theology that most Protestants couldn't answer. The canon objection. The perspicuity objection. The authority objection. The development of doctrine objection. These weren't lazy arguments. They were philosophically sophisticated, historically informed, and genuinely difficult.
And the standard Protestant responses weren't cutting it. Proof texts don't hold up under philosophical pressure. "The Holy Spirit guided the Church" concedes the Catholic's premise. "Jerome rejected the deuterocanonicals" gets dismissed as one guy's opinion. I watched pastors freeze. I watched seminarians stumble. I watched good Protestants swim the Tiber because nobody gave them the tools to answer.
I decided to build those tools.
The Attribute Inscripturation Thesis
The result is the Attribute Inscripturation Thesis, a philosophical argument grounding Sola Scriptura in the Doctrine of God. It starts from premises the Catholic Church officially affirms (classical theism, Thomistic causality, Dei Verbum) and reaches a Protestant conclusion.
God's essential perfections, operating through exemplar causality, determine the text's intrinsic character, producing twelve textual properties that ground Scripture's sufficiency, clarity, self-authentication, and supreme authority.
The argument generates a single diagnostic question deployable against every major objection: Which divine perfection failed?
The Protestant Academy
The Protestant Academy is the home for lectures and courses. The tools you need to stop freezing and start answering.
This isn't about winning debates for the sake of winning. It's about equipping Protestants to engage the hardest questions with intellectual honesty, philosophical precision, and genuine charity toward the people on the other side of the conversation.
I steelman Catholic positions at full strength before I respond to them. I cite Catholic sources. I take the objections seriously because they deserve to be taken seriously.
If you've ever been cornered by a question you couldn't answer, if you've ever watched a friend convert to Rome and wondered whether the other side had a point, if you've ever known your position was right but couldn't articulate why, this is for you.
